Well…I’ve done it. For some reason I thought that I was cool enough to start my own blog. I guess summer break got the best of me! :-) I’m not even sure how this blogging things works, but I’m going to “give it a go.”
First I guess that I’ll start by telling you where I came up with the name for my blog. I have 2 AMAZING grandmothers in my life. I’ve been so fortunate to get to spend a lot of time with both of them. When I was little normal kids were going to summer camps and doing things that were fun. Not me. My parents wanted me to do those things but I wanted no part of it. Since both of my parents worked they had to pawn me off on someone and their options were limited.
They could send me to my Granny Smith’s. My Granny Smith has 12 children and a crap ton of grandchildren. Being with her was always exciting. We were always up to something. This is a picture of my Granny Smith when we were at the beach last week. I definitely get my love for the sun from her. That’s sunscreen she’s holding on to though. ;-)
The other option was my Pa and Granny’s. This is a picture of my Granny Jean. It was taken at Easter. Neither one of them really like to have their picture taken so I have to be creative about taking pictures. She is loving on one of her Great-Grandchildren in this pictures, my niece Hailey.
When I was at my Granny Jean’s house I did it all. I went on the farm with my Pa and then I did everything I could with my Granny. My sweet Granny cooked three meals a day for my Pa and in between, she cleaned the house, helped on the farm and sewed many things. My Granny is known for her amazing quilts. Here is a picture of one of my favorites, a wedding gift for Josh and I.
Granny is also known for her amazing cooking skills. She can cook a great old fashion country meal like no one else! My personal favorites, which I will share on here, are her homemade biscuits, dumplins and chocolate pie. I could eat any of them all day long!
Now, on to the making granny proud part. I definitely want to make both of my Grandmother’s proud. And I in no way feel as if I have or can make either one of my Grandmother’s more proud than another grandchild can or has. But many of the things that will be posted on this blog will be things that I did with my Granny Jean. Along the way, many of her grandchildren have taken an interest in things that we all used to do with her. However, I think that because I am a teacher and I have summers off (yeah, right), I have a little more opportunity to continue to do some of the things that I’ve done with my Granny throughout the years.
Sadly, my sweet Granny doesn’t see as well as she used to. It has gotten too hard for her to see the fine details that come with sewing. She used to make us all quilts every Christmas and two years ago Granny let us know that she had made her last quilt. Since she will never see this, my hope is to finally return the favor this year and make a quilt for my Granny with fabric that has been selected by her three children. Since it’s already the end of June, and knowing that I’m not a seamstress, I better get on the stick!
The short version to this extremely long post is that I hope that I am continuing in my amazing Granny Jean’s footsteps and making both of my grandmother’s (and others) proud.
Love you Meghan Ann....and I love the fact that sometimes we feel like sisters instead of cousins:)
